Ego Dysfunction

By trying to project their stuff on to others, many people believe they can judge or do evil to someone else and this helps them feel better about themselves. They judge the other person or group as somehow inferior, which is what the ego does when it feels inadequate (and all egos feel inadequate). " I am better than you, so that makes me feel good about myself."

Along those same lines, in keeping with the ego belief that God is a punishing God, many rejoice in hearing about the misfortune or hard times of another person or group or race. The false belief is that they should be punished for their sins, but it is really the person making that judgment who believes they should be punished and they are projecting that out.
