"Be still and know that I am God." Stillness is an absence of thought, the thought that comes from your mind. Have you ever witnessed your thoughts and how crazy they can become? How they jump around from subject to subject with complete randomness? How they are always based in the past (what happened) or the future (what will happen), never the present moment. Something this random and chaotic can not come from God.
Within stillness there is thought. This is the thought that comes from God. This is the thought that comes through as our intuition, our gut feel, our hunches, our knowing. This thought arises naturally without effort, without fear. But it can only arise when it is not crowded out by the other type of thought. For the vast majority, the thought from their mind is there 99.999% of the time. This creates a situation where one places validity on these thoughts --- kind of like the idea that if there is smoke, there must be fire.
But these thoughts are not valid. Only the ones from God are, and an amazing thing happens once you start to realize this --- more of the God thoughts come in. As you withdraw belief in what is not real, it begins to fade away. Be still and know that I am God cannot be any more clear. It is not written as a parable, but rather it is a simple instruction through which you can change your life.
