What You Do Unto The Least ...

What does it mean to be a Christian?

It does not mean to be one in name only. This is worshiping a false god. If you put your focus on anything but God -- like your wealth, your career, your reputation, really anything of this world -- then you are not a Christian. If you think it is okay to stay (for we all go there sometimes) in judgment of yourself, of others, of groups, of nations, etc, then you are not truly understanding and practicing what Jesus came here to show us. For when he said judge not lest you be judged, he was referring to the reality that we are One. As we judge, we judge ourselves.

What you do unto the least of my brothers, you do unto me. Another profound statement of our Unity. Jesus spoke this as the Christ, not as the personality who was in this world 2000 years ago. He is making these statements to aid you in the awakening of the Christ within you, for there is only one Christ, of which we are all a part.

Mother Teresa worked amongst the poorest of the poor because she understood what you do unto the least of my brothers perfectly. She said that she was administering to the Christ in each person, and this helped her to remember the Christ within her. Although her nuns operated and still operate in the most horrific of conditions, they live in the greatest joy for they have given themselves over to God and the Christ within. They realize that nothing of this world can compare.

Stop the endless chase of going from one thing to the next in trying to find your salvation in the world. You will never find it. You will be continually disappointed, and at some point, you have to stop fooling yourself in thinking that it will be the next thing that will provide it. If I only had more money, if I only had a soulmate, if I only had the respect of others, if I could only stay young. This is like the gerbil spinning endlessly on his wheel and going nowhere.

This doesn't mean that you don't enjoy the things of the world or that you don't have a special partner in your life, because most people are not meant to live a life like Mother Teresa. We are given certain gifts that will enable us to be a Light unto others, but we must first recognize and be a Light unto ourselves. And we must recognize what is truly Real and what is false. Only the Real can give you peace. Only the Real can give you joy. Only the Real can give you the Love that you strive for, that Beloved relationship with your Creator.
